Municipal Minute: Sanitation Department

As we approach the end of the year, there are a few things that residents should be aware of to help the Sanitation Department keep the Borough clean and running smoothly. First, residents should be aware of what can be recycled! We accept all paper, clean and flattened cardboard, steel and aluminum cans, plastic bottles #1-5 and #7, and glass jars and bottles. Please rinse out all plastic and glass before recycling!

Things the borough cannot accept include plastic grocery bags, Styrofoam, scrap metal, wood, hangers, hoses, or electronics.

Second, now that the seasons are changing and the leaves are beginning to fall- leaf collection will begin on October 16th and will end on December 22nd, pickup will be every other Monday, as the weather permits. All leaves must be bagged in biodegradable paper bags and placed out for pickup in the same place you put out your trash. The full schedule can be found on the Borough’s website!

Lastly, one of the borough's biggest winter pickups are Christmas trees – Phoenixville residents have two options for disposal of their live Christmas trees: 1. Live trees can be left outside and collected with the regular trash starting on December 26th and going until March 1st. 2. Or Residents can also take their trees to the Borough compost site at 18 S 2nd Ave. Please Note: All live trees must be free of ornaments, lights, tinsel, and other decorations in order to be taken away by the Borough Sanitation Department.
